Partnership with Parents

Working Alongside Our Parents

ABC recognises that parents / carers are the most important people in their child’s life. ABC aims to work with you in providing care and education for your child, each child is assigned key persons who work in partnership with parents in order to provide the best outcomes for children.  Each child has 2 key persons who work together to promote the learning and development of your child. Having 2 key persons means that there is always a familiar practitioner in the setting for the children and their parents.

We like to welcome parent volunteers to the setting, and we invite parents in to play when we can. Any regular visitors to the setting will be asked to complete a DBS check.

In order to help safeguard the children in our care, regular volunteers will be asked to complete a criminal records check procedure.

Uniform

We have a lovely uniform of sweatshirts, polo shirts and fleeces that are practical and hard wearing, and look great teamed with trousers or jeans. The wearing of our uniform is beneficial for the following reasons:

The children have a sense of belonging when wearing the uniform, and know they are attending pre-school that day.

The uniform makes the children easily identifiable when we are out on our planned walks.

Wearing the uniform saves wear and tear on the children’s other lovely clothing.

The step from pre-school to primary school is not so big if the children are dressing in uniform when they attend pre-school

Uniform can be purchased from the pre-school

We completely understand that some parents may prefer to dress their children in their own clothing so we would ask that you please dress your child in clothing which is easy for them to manage independently e.g. pull-up trousers, shoes with Velcro, and that clothing is appropriate to the current weather and climate.

We encourage children to gain the skills which help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet, taking off and putting on various clothing eg dressing-up clothes etc

All clothing should be clearly named especially coats and sweatshirts/jumpers that may be taken off.

A brand-new collaboration with ABC Swalecliffe & Born Anxious

Our wonderful new uniform and logo designed by a very special boy who used to attend ABC.

Here is the story behind our lovely new logo written by Oscar’s mum Kellie.

Anyone can thrive if they are afforded the supportive relationships that allow them to do so, we revisit those that held us at times we felt alone and pay forward what we learned.

Very excited to share with you all the new designs for ABC preschool

 ‘Enough as you are ‘

In Oscars early years he attended ABC alongside The Mary Sheridan Nursery. Something that I always love about ABC is that it is an inclusive safe space that works very closely with other professionals that might be involved with children that have additional needs.

During Oscars time at ABC he received much nurturing and didn’t really meet any targets that anybody set simply because his sensory system was so unregulated by his navigation of the world that isn’t built for him we were trying to put the pieces together, how we could meet Oscars needs.

ABC Nursery created a safe space for Oscar where he was able to explore his sensory needs in a safe place with caring people and received lots of nurturing.

Nothing was ever out of the question in terms of Oscar’s ability, his unique needs were celebrated and he was always seen as an equal and achievable targets were set for him by his keyworkers at ABC. This gave Oscar a unique sense of confidence and a new freedom and he made many friends.

It is a very precious part of Oscar‘s journey.
Since Oscar has graduated from nursery he has attended specialist school where he is provided with one-to-one care. Oscars diagnosis is very complex and Oscar is autistic. He also has ADHD. He also suffers from absent seizures also has a very complicated eating disorder named ARFID.
Oscar is also dyspraxic and is unable to hold a pen easily one day when I was looking through Oscars drawings and scribbles I found the outline of this little person in overwhelmed.
I asked Oscar who is this and he said in a very sweet voice “this is Oscar the whole Boy”.
The moral of the story is that when Oscar was at ABC nursery, he was treated like a whole person and he felt equal even though his needs marginalised him due to his ability to take part and the staff ABC always made a conscious effort to make reasonable adjustments so that Oscar could take part like everybody else.

We have designed this jumper for ABC to symbolise its unique print in one whole boys journey.

We hope that this design validates every single child that attends ABC and shares a message that makes everyone feel they belong regardless of difference or preference .
